No Time Better than Now for Family Strengthening
September 5 , 2007
Dear Friend of the Family,
Last week, I was given the opportunity to speak before the Idaho State House Task Force on the Family. The task force is studying ways in which it can support and promote the family.
Tremendous amounts of social data show that when homes are broken and dysfunctional, society suffers socially, educationally and financially. For this reason, I recommended to the Idaho Task Force the following three levels of family strengthening:
Strengthen Your Own Family
- Live according to high standards of character
- Strengthen your own marriage
- Have or adopt children and raise them responsibly
Support Public Policy that Protects the Traditional Family
- Preserve traditional marriage
- Promote motherhood and fatherhood
- Defend the sanctity of life
- Protect voluntary religious exercise
Support good governance
- Protect families from offensive materials and intruders
- Establish family-friendly schools
- Build family-oriented neighborhoods
- Volunteer, join or financially contribute to groups that monitor high-level appointments, cases and policy conferences and fight distant, unreported battles for you
My experiences both inside and outside my home have taught me how critical strong families are to a healthy society. One great religious leader said, “No nation can rise higher that the strength of its families.” There has never been a time when strengthening our nation has been needed more than it is today.
My invitation is for each of us to relish the privileges and responsibilities of family life. To strengthen our homes and families through the avenues mentioned. To answer the clarion call as responsible citizens to promote all measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family.
Warm regards,
