UFI Successes
International Lobbying Efforts
UFI sent our full-time legal representative, Doug Clark, to each major U.N. conference. Doug has represented UFI in Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa, and at numerous conferences in New York where he educated U.N. delegates from many countries on the issues affecting families. He also worked closely with the U.S. delegation to preserve and protect the family in United Nations documents.
Pro-Family U.N. Negotiating Guide
UFI published and distributed our Pro-Family U.N. Negotiating Guide to U.N. delegates. This guide has become the most powerful and widely used tool at the United Nations to defeat the anti-family agenda. The U.S. delegation has called our guide "indispensable."
Stay Alive HIV/Aids Prevention Education Program
UFI launched our Stay Alive abstinence-based HIV/AIDS prevention program in Ghana, Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, and Ethiopia, and it is truly making a difference. We can hardly keep up with demand for the program, which changes behaviors and attitudes about promiscuous sex. It is literally saving lives.
Exposed UNICEF's Anti-Family Agenda
UFI uncovered and exposed UNICEF's agenda to provide to children explicit sexual education materials promoting sexual behaviors too perverse to mention. We then presented these materials, along with proof that UNICEF was promoting abortion, to U.N. delegates in the heat of negotiations at the U.N. World Summit on Children. This helped overturn the abortion language in the outcome document.
Supporting the Sanctity of Life
UFI was instrumental in stopping the U.S. funding of $34 million to the U.N. Fund for Population activities (UNFPA), which supports forced abortion and sterilizations in China. We were told that several senators had a copy of our memorandum as the vote which defeated the funding proposal was taken.
Opposing the CEDAW Treaty
UFI rallied support from our members and friends against U.S. ratification of The Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). This treaty is clearly the most dangerous treaty ever to come out of the U.N. and constitutes an assault on the family, motherhood, marriage, life, and religion. The vote has been delayed indefinitely, but when it rears its ugly head again we will be there to stop it!
World Congress of Families
UFI co-convened the World Congress of Families in New York and brought in world-renowned scholars and experts who trained U.N. ambassadors and delegates on family issues and rallied support for the pro-family agenda at the U.N. The keynote speaker was the First Lady of Uganda, Janet Museveni, who delivered an inspirational message on her successful crusade on abstinence to stem the HIV/AIDS epidemic in her country.
International Impact
UFI has attracted government leaders from around the world to join our cause to defend the family. Prominent international leaders have joined our international board, including Ambassador Nicole Elisha from Benin (the chairman for a key U.N. voting block of developing countries), as well as U.N. ambassadors and delegates from several countries (including the former U.N. ambassador from Latvia, and a former U.N. delegate from Mexico). We also sent our first two interns to Africa. They spent two months assessing possible future internships and introducing a pilot program for literacy which does not require a teacher or facilitator.
Informing You on Family Issues
UFI monitored family issues throughout the world and across the United States and kept you informed through our newsletter and email distribution list.
Educating the Public
UFI provided legal help and educational materials to individuals, organizations, and groups to defend the family against pornography, explicit sex education programs, and homosexual activism in schools and state legislatures.
