Getting it Right. A Tale of Two Ads

Remember the old cliché?  “It not as important what you say as how you say it.”  We think we found a great example of that.

Take a look at these two pro-life ads.  They have almost identical wording and images, but the impact is quite different.  We do not mean to denigrate the efforts of the Wisconsin pro-life organization Bay Area Pregnancy Services, but by several media accounts their billboard created controversy and some confusion as to whether or not the ad was actually meant to encourage women to avoid abortion or to have an abortion.

Now take a look at the ad piece below.

Now that is some great “messaging!”  We could not locate what entity created the piece, but we’d like to give credit. Contact us if you know.

We, who have worked in the pro-life community for years (like decades!), are way behind in our understanding of popular culture and what has appeal.  We need your help – all you hip and cool young people, get involved.  Put your creativity to work!  It is essential that the pro-life community gets the message right – lives depend on it.

    The sponsoring organization could have printed in the upper right hand corner – “See us we save lives.”

    I think the first one does a better job at sharing with their audience where help can be found. The second image even though it it very powerful, it needs to let women know where they can seek help in order to make the right choice, which is always life.

    That’s a great comment- it is important that you give concrete information on where women can go to get help.
