Be a part of the solution: Encourage Marriage

“Child poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are aware of the principal cause: the absence of married fathers in the home. According to the U.S. Census, the poverty rate for single parents with children in the United States in 2008 was 36.5 percent. The rate for married couples with children was 6.4 percent. Being raised in a married family reduced a child’s probability of living in poverty by about 80 percent.”  Information like this comes to us from The Heritage Foundation’s Report:  Marriage:  America’s Greatest Weapon Against Child Poverty.

We wanted to spotlight the report again and encourage you to read it thoroughly.  It is full of easy to understand charts explaining the importance of fathers and marriage to children, and how marriage proves to be an effective poverty-reducing strategy.  It’s not just the combining of two people’s income, either, that makes marriage so beneficial.  This article explains why.

If you’re looking for some solid and concise information to articulate a pro-family, pro-marriage position, this is a great article to have in your arsenal.

“Marriage is highly beneficial to children, adults, and society; it needs to be encouraged and strengthened. Under current government policies, however, marriage is either ignored or undermined. This needs to change.”

We couldn’t agree more and your help is needed to get the information out.
