Fifteen children, thirteen children, eight children…  big families!  People differ in their response to families of this size and United Families International received not a small amount of “mail” on the subject when we sent our our most recent email entitled:  “Large Families are Treasures.” (Read it here.)

We particularly enjoyed one email response and thought we’d share it with you.

Thank you for distributing the UFI alert entitled “Large Families are Treasures.”  Although I am in my forties and have not yet had the opportunity to fall in love with the man of my dreams, marry him and raise a family of my own, I support what you are accomplishing in the effort to promote the importance of families.

I grew up in a family of eight children with a caring, dedicated full-time mother and a loving, hard-working father.  I agree that such a lifestyle helped us children be good students, learn to serve others, experience how teamwork makes many things possible, and appreciate the value of sacrificing expensive activities for down-home fun with each other.  We smile now about how our one-car garage was so full of bicycles, scooters and a go-cart that there was never room for a car in it!  How nice to know that my parents thought children’s play was more important than preserving car paint from sun damage!

Now that we are grown and my siblings have welcomed to their families more than the 2.1 children per family needed to maintain the population, they are all a blessing to me.  I am proud of my 24.5 adorable nieces and nephews, my college-educated brothers, sisters and their wonderful spouses — all whom contribute much more to the economy and to their communities than just a one-child family can ever do.

My life would indeed be lonely without a large family.
