Protect against Title IX and submit a comment by September 12, 2022.

The US Department of Education released their proposed changes to Title IX regulations that would dramatically change the future for women and girls in federally funded activities and programs. There are many negative impacts that will harm girls, women, and families.

A government portal has been set up for you to make a comment submission.  It is very straight-forward and easy to do.  In addition, this governmental body is required to read every submission, large and small – before they can finalize the new “Rule.”  So rest assured, your input will be read and considered.

“[I]t is the life of the family upon which in the last analysis the whole welfare of the nations rests…The nation is nothing but the aggregate of the families within its borders.”  –Theodore Roosevelt

I’ll bet you didn’t know that in the U.S. the third week of November is “National Family Week.”  Britain has a similar commemoration in August of each year.

We didn’t want the week to slip by without taking the chance to reflect on the crucial institution of family.  As Roosevelt said, “the whole welfare of nations rests” upon the family.  That sentiment is proven to be true as one looks at the negative outcomes to children, adults, and societies when families breakdown or fail to form.

In honor of National Family Week, we share these quotes and insights:

“The family is the building block of society.  It is a nursery, a school, a hospital, a leisure center, aplace of refuge, and a place of rest.” – Margaret Thatcher

“The family is the cornerstone of our society. More than any other force, it shapes the attitude, the hopes, the ambitions and the values of the child. And when the family collapses, it is the children that are usually damaged. When it happens on a massive scale, the entire community itself is crippled.” –Lyndon B. Johnson

“We are at our most loving, our most selfless within the orbit of a good family.” – Judith Wallerstein

“Real family autonomy and community strength normally exist in inverse relation to government size and controls” –Allan Carlson

“There is no doubt that it is around the family and the home that all the greatest virtues, the most dominating virtues of human society, are created, strengthened and maintained.” – Winston Churchill

“I believe that becoming a parent is the most important commitment a human being can undertake—that nothing in life is more individually rewarding or socially important than forming families and raising children.”  – Dr. Lee Salk

“The family as we know it historically, and not as some people have recently tried to redefine it, goes back at least as far as we have human records.  It has been civilization’s most fundament and enduring institution.  The basic unit of the family is unchanged…  During periods of societal breakdown…the family is the one, and sometimes the only unit of society to survive.  When the family is destroyed…, the impact on society is catastrophic:  society ceases to exist as a functioning historical entity.” –Professor John Gee (surveying the earliest records of Egypt and Mesopotamia)
