If the fact that your tax dollars are going to fund abortion turns your stomach, you’ll want to give support to a new piece of legislation. Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-OH) and Rep. Christ Smith (R-NJ) recently introduced H.R. 3. The “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” will prohibit your tax dollars from going to abortion and covers all federal programs.
If passed, H.R. 3 will make the Hyde Amendment permanent and will strengthen efforts to stop the U.S. from funding abortion globally. The bill, as of last count, had 175 co-sponsors and the new Speaker of the House has vowed to make this bill “one of our highest legislative priorities.”
Speaker Boehner stated (video below): “A ban on taxpayer funding of abortion is the will of the people and ought to be the law of the land.” Rep. Boehner’s statement is supported by a Quinnipiac University poll that found that 67 percent of Americans oppose funding abortions with government funds.
